Nice little cafe located in downtown Oakland that’s a unique experience from your typical third wave coffee roasters in the Bay Area. Delay is a middle eastern coffee shop so they specialize in Yemeni coffees and teas.
I tried the Adeni chai which was a solid choice. The tea had milk flavors and some spices which added to the drink, though I wish the spice flavor was a bit stronger. Next time I’d try one of their coffee based drinks instead.
The inside is nice and clean and had plenty of sitting area too if you’re looking to get some work done.
This might just be my absolute favorite middle eastern bakery/ coffee shop. They are so friendly, nice, and welcoming; I didn’t want to leave the place!!
Their honey bite is so darn good! I’m coming right back to buy another one!
Really good yemeni latte. I think it tastes better hot than iced. You can also order through bigger pots of coffee to share with a group. The bee bite pastry was also quite good, soft bread with cheese in the middle, topped with honey. They also had different cakes and baklavas.
I definitely recommend the baklava $6.95/2 pieces. The beautiful interior is a calm, quiet place to study. Wifi was slow so I wouldn't work on a laptop here. I also did not appreciate the service. I ordered a piece of cake. While ordering I said I don't like desserts with a strong rose water flavor and asked for a recommendation. I wish she would have told me the pistachio milk cake was soaked in rose water. Ultimately my fault for not being familiar, but it would have been nice to say. I couldn't eat the bottom portion. After ordering they never gave me the cake or baklava. I had to go back and ask and wait again. The server placed my baklava pieces in the liquid from the cake. She nearly served the cake in a plastic box, but I insisted "for here please" and asked for a plate. Everything else came in disposable, one-time-use plastic when they have plates right there. It's wasteful. Finally, hard dry mint bits in the refresher drink gave it an unpleasant texture. Why not use fresh mint? If I came back, I would try the coffee and get baklava to take away.

2 weeks agoThe Yemeni Tea was quite good (a bit like chai without milk) but very strong. When they ask if you want some sugar in it I recommend saying yes.
