10 months agoThe Following Criticisms, may very well come from a place of ignorance. But I will just say what I observed. I am not a particularly "high society" type. The reason I bring this to light, is due to the fact people reading this may misinterpret my intentions and view me as pretentious and demonizing. My specific criticism comes from the Imam they got. As a matter of fact, this criticism may as well apply to a vast majority who conduct the lecture/dialogue in Juma. I will say this with the utmost respect and maybe it is just me. But 80% of the time I have no idea what they're saying. It is vaguely intelligible. Its the allusion of dialogue. I understand the audience are not native English speakers which is fine, but having an accent isn't the worst thing out their. The thing that drives me insane. Is that their is no cohesive TL:DR or even "moral of the story" one can take the lecture/preach from. To give you an example. Imagine I am opening with the introduction concerning a Hadith, relevant to modern day events. Like whats happening in Gaza. Then I fluctuate between English and the Arabic verses of the Quran/Hadith, then I waterboard your ears with analogies and metaphors, as well as a variety red herrings, that make the lecture confusing. "What are we talking about again?" I ask myself often trying to comprehend what I think I am hearing. Their is no cohesive, linear/abstract point to grasp. As someone who is ignorant about the Deen who tries to be educated and surround myself with those who are more qualified and have experience. Its a dreadful endeavor to think I need to go there. I've grown to resent coming here. The New Imam which they claim they found. I understand he speaks 3 languages. Difficulties may arise when trying to communicate. But my goodness, he is unironically incomprehensible. I feel like I am continuously being passively gaslit. Because everyone around me seems to understand what he is saying.

a year agoMashallah what a kind and generous community. People here will offer to pay for your food. The parking situation here is not great though, probably due to it being the only masjid this corner of the Bay

7 years agoThoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Islamic Center of North Marin. It is small and friendly, and everyone gave me a warm welcome. Very nice group to spend an evening with, and the pot luck supper was delicious!
